House Dellacher, Modernist residence in Oberwart, Austria.
House Dellacher is a modernist residence in Oberwart with a white cubic structure connecting two separate wings of the building. A central spiral staircase illuminated by a skylight allows movement through the spaces and creates a sense of spatial continuity.
Architect Raimund Abraham designed this single-family house between 1965 and 1969 for photographer Max Dellacher. The project combines modernist ideals with regional architectural elements and reflects the architectural experiments of the 1960s.
The dining room draws on Japanese design principles with its skylight lighting and absence of views to the outside, while wooden recesses show Adolf Loos influences. The spaces invite visitors to think about how light and space shape the experience of a room.
The house can only be visited through guided tours organized by the Dellacher association. Visits provide access to the restored interiors and allow you to see how the architectural features work in person.
The monolithic structure splits down the middle to create natural window openings and bring light into the spaces in unexpected ways. A covered arcade on the upper floor blends the modernist design with local building traditions of the region.
