Eichkogel, Mountain summit in Liesing, Austria
Eichkogel rises to 428 meters within the Vienna Woods and displays limestone formations from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The slopes show different rock layers that become visible during walks through the area.
The area was originally covered in dense oak forests that gradually changed due to human activity around 5600 BC. Cattle and sheep grazing shaped the landscape over thousands of years and altered the mountainside.
The mountain is part of a protected nature area that shelters rare plants like Diptam and Spring adonis. Visitors notice the variety of forest vegetation during walks and see how this place is actively protected.
The mountain is easy to reach and offers walking trails for different fitness levels, from gentle strolls to more demanding routes. The paths are well marked and wind through various forest sections.
On the southeastern slope stood a former cement plant where limestone from nearby Teufelstein was processed. Traces of this industrial past remain partially visible in the landscape today.
