Josefswarte, Perchtoldsdorf, Observation tower in Perchtoldsdorf, Austria.
Josefswarte is an observation tower in Perchtoldsdorf that stands at 575 meters in elevation, offering views across the Vienna Basin toward the Leitha Mountains and Little Carpathians. From the top, visitors gain a panoramic outlook across the surrounding landscape with its hills and valleys.
A wooden tower built in 1881 was replaced in 1891 with an iron structure, funded through donations and support from the Lower Austrian Mountain Association. This replacement made the building more permanent and improved the observation platforms.
The tower is named after Josef Hyrtl, a respected doctor and benefactor who worked to advance Perchtoldsdorf's development. His name reflects the community's gratitude for his contributions over many years.
The structure underwent comprehensive renovation, requiring 90 kilograms of paint and three tons of wood material to repair the stairs and observation platforms. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and expect to climb several stairs to reach the observation area.
From the north side of the tower, visitors could formerly see the ruins of the Perlmooser cement factory in Kaltenleutgeben before its complete demolition. These traces of industrial history have vanished, showing how the landscape has transformed over time.
