Hocheiser, Alpine summit in Kaprun, Austria
Hocheiser is a mountain summit in the High Tauern Alps reaching about 3,200 meters, located between the Stubach and Kaprun valleys. The peak belongs to the Glockner Group and rises prominently from the surrounding terrain.
The first recorded ascent of Hocheiser took place in 1871, establishing it as a recognized climbing destination in Austrian mountaineering circles. Over the decades, the peak became a known challenge for experienced alpinists in the Tauern range.
The mountain forms part of the Alpine climbing traditions, where mountaineers gather to test their skills on routes requiring technical expertise.
The route to Hocheiser begins at Mooserboden dam and passes through variable mountain terrain with steep sections. Visitors need proper alpine hiking boots and mountain experience, as parts of the climb involve technical scrambling.
The peak ranks as the second-highest summit in a group of around 360 mountains, and on clear days offers views of several renowned neighboring peaks. From the top, climbers can see the Grossglockner and other major Alpine summits standing distinctly.
