Stupa am Wagram, Buddhist monument in Grafenwörth, Austria
The Stupa am Wagram is a Buddhist monument rising approximately 32 meters above the terrain on a hillside location, featuring meditation spaces and surrounding gardens. The landscape design incorporates multiple functional areas for visitors and reflects careful planning of the entire site.
Construction of this Buddhist site began in 2016 after plans for similar projects in other locations had not materialized. The site was formally inaugurated in 2023, establishing a significant Buddhist presence in the region.
The monument draws visitors from different religious backgrounds and has become a place where people come together across faith traditions. The gardens and grounds create a setting where such encounters happen naturally.
The site sits on elevated terrain with access via walking paths, and flat routes lead to the meditation spaces. Visitors are welcome to spend time exploring the different areas at their own pace throughout the day.
The entire project was funded privately without using any public money, demonstrating how a private initiative can shape the local landscape. The design combines modern construction methods with traditional Buddhist architectural elements in an unexpected way.
