Pfarrkirche Engabrunn

Pfarrkirche Engabrunn, Gothic parish church in Grafenegg, Austria

Pfarrkirche Engabrunn is a parish church with Gothic style in Grafenegg, defined by its compact western tower and exterior walls. The structure features carved stone quadrants and pointed-arch arcades that give the building its distinctive character.

The church was first documented in 1465 as a chapel and developed into a late Gothic hall church between 1501 and 1513. Its consecration in 1522 marked the completion of the structure and established it as a formal community place of worship.

The church displays statues of Sebastian, Peter, Paul, and Mary on its high altar, reflecting religious art traditions from the early 1900s. These figures were consecrated in 1906 and shape the spiritual character of the space today.

The location sits in the southern part of Engabrunn and is easily accessible by foot or car for visitors approaching the area. It functions as a religious center offering regular services and providing a quiet setting for personal reflection and prayer.

The northern side of the nave contains a shoulder-arched portal decorated with rich moldings that remained hidden for decades beneath later additions. Its discovery in 1972 revealed an overlooked example of Gothic craftsmanship preserved within the structure.
