BRG6 Marchettigasse, Protected historic school building in Mariahilf, Austria.
BRG6 Marchettigasse is a four-story school building in Vienna with a distinctive facade combining exposed brick masonry and plaster sections. The windows feature straight canopies and relief decorations that give the structure its particular character.
The building was constructed in 1881 according to designs by architect Carl Schlimp, following the establishment of the school in 1854. After World War II, it returned to its original purpose as an educational facility.
The school transformed from a male-only institution to a mixed-gender educational facility in 1922, marking a shift in Austrian educational policies.
The school is located on Marchettigasse 3 in Vienna's 6th district and is easily accessible by public transportation. As an active school building, visits are typically restricted to times outside regular classes.
During World War II the building served as office space for Heinkel aircraft production but escaped bomb damage entirely. This makes it a rare example of a Vienna school structure that survived such an intense period of conflict unscathed.
