Pfarrkirche Pyhra

Pfarrkirche Pyhra is a late medieval parish church featuring a prominent eastern tower, a four-bay nave with buttresses, and simple tracery windows. The early Gothic architectural elements create the building's overall character and structure.

The church was built in the late Gothic period and served the local population as a refuge in times of danger. Around 1463, residents sought shelter within its walls from soldiers who raided the area.

The church holds Renaissance tombs of the Greiß family, local nobles who once ruled from nearby Wald Castle. These burial monuments show how local aristocrats expressed their authority through religious buildings.

The church is located centrally in Pyhra and is easily accessible on foot. You can reach the parish office at Hauptstrasse 17 for information and to arrange access if needed.

An exceptionally large memorial tablet from 1572 adorns the wall, depicting Christoph von Greiß alongside his wife and three brothers. This impressive monument immediately catches visitors' attention and records the family's high standing in the region.
