Gars Castle is a fortress ruin situated on elevated ground above the Kamp River, featuring remaining walls and a three-story Renaissance wing adjacent to medieval sections. The site consists of multiple building segments from different periods that together form a compound of stone and brick structures.

The hilltop castle above the Kamp was built around 1120/1130. Its three terraced levels hold the upper ward within a ring wall, a southern gate tower with the castle chapel, a 16th-century hall building and 13th-century fortifications. A small coat of arms of the Rotthal family, dated 1709, sits above the portal of the north tower.

The inner courtyard hosts open-air opera performances during summer months against the backdrop of the ancient walls. This use connects the castle with modern cultural life and draws visitors from the surrounding region.
