Hotel Blauensteiner, Historical hotel in Thunau am Kamp, Austria
Hotel Blauensteiner is a building with stepped architecture and large balconies overlooking the Kamp valley. The structure stands at Taborgasse 8 and offers views of the surrounding hills and forests from its elevated position.
The building was founded in 1897 as Hotel Simunek and was the first lodging built in the area during the early tourism development of the Kamptal region. This opening marked the start of tourism growth, as wealthy visitors found their first accommodation options nearby.
The building takes its name from a local family and shows how wealthy guests in the 19th century used the region. The balconies and terraces still shape the appearance of the place today and reveal how people then wanted to enjoy views and nature.
The building sits just above the Kamptal railway line, which is accessible via a stairway from Taborgasse street. The location offers direct connections for visitors arriving by train or wanting to explore the surrounding trails on foot.
The building was purchased by a new owner in 2022 and is planned to undergo complete renovation over the coming years. This work may restore it to its earlier state and reopen it to visitors in a renewed form.
