Lerik District

Lerik District is an administrative region in southern Azerbaijan featuring mountainous terrain and scattered settlements across the Talysh range. The territory encompasses numerous municipalities and villages linked by roads.

The Buzeyir cave settlement shows evidence of human habitation dating back to the Neolithic period. This early occupation demonstrates long-term human presence in the mountainous region.

Talysh and Azerbaijani speakers live throughout the region, keeping their languages and traditions alive through community gatherings and local customs. You hear these languages in markets and villages, woven into everyday conversations and celebrations.

The mountainous landscape requires patience when moving between locations, though roads connect the settlements. Travel times between villages can be longer due to the terrain and elevation changes.

A protected reserve within the district harbors wolves, bears, foxes, and wild cats in the mountains. This concentration of large predators in one area makes it an important refuge for these animals.
