Hum Tower, Television tower on Mount Hum, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Hum Tower is a 78.5-meter concrete structure that stands on Mount Hum at an altitude of 812 meters and carries antennas for radio and television transmission. The facility transmits signals to the Sarajevo region and forms a central part of the local broadcasting network.
The tower was first constructed in the 1960s and underwent reconstruction in the 1980s before sustaining significant damage in May 1992 at the start of the Bosnian War. Rebuilding efforts after the conflict restored the site's broadcast functions.
The tower's shape is so important to the city that it appears on the official coat of arms of Novo Sarajevo municipality. For residents, it serves as an everyday landmark that defines the skyline from many angles.
The tower sits on a hilltop that requires a climb to reach, and the elevation offers expansive views across the city and surrounding terrain. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions and wear sturdy footwear suitable for the ascent.
Unlike most broadcast towers worldwide, this one is built from concrete rather than the typical steel frame construction. This unusual design gives it a distinctive, solid appearance that sets it apart visually from other transmission facilities.
