Fanson Castle, Medieval castle in Xhoris, Belgium
Fanson Castle is a medieval fortress in Ferrières with thick stone walls built in the style of Belgian defensive structures. The building displays the typical features of fortified architecture that protected settlements in this region centuries ago.
The castle was built in the 13th century and suffered major damage during a 17th-century siege. This attack left lasting marks on the structure that remain visible today.
The castle exemplifies the medieval architectural heritage of Wallonia, representing the historical defense systems of the Liège Province.
This is private property and closed to the public year-round. You can view the ruin from a distance at the edge of the village if you visit the area.
After the 17th-century siege, villagers salvaged bricks and stones from the damaged fortress to build their own homes. Parts of the castle materials can still be spotted in older houses scattered through the village today.
