Aertrycke Castle, Gothic Revival castle in Torhout, Belgium

Aertrycke Castle is a Gothic Revival structure in Torhout set within a 55-hectare park crisscrossed by artificial ponds and mature oak groves. Winding pathways guide visitors through the grounds past Giant Sequoias and Japanese maples, while the entire property serves as an event venue with multiple function spaces.

August de Maere purchased approximately 98 hectares of domain land in 1865 and commissioned architect Joseph Schadde to build this neo-Gothic castle in 1869. The construction reflected the architectural taste of that period and shaped the appearance of the region for generations to come.

The landscape was shaped by garden architect Louis Fuchs, who created expansive meadows and water features that still define the character of the place today. Small structures along the waterside once served as boathouses and private retreats for the estate's occupants.

The venue offers various indoor and outdoor spaces for events of all kinds, from weddings to business meetings, with professional catering options available. Visitors should allow plenty of time to explore the park, as pathways spread across the entire 55-hectare grounds.

The castle reflects in the main pond, creating a doubled image that is further enhanced by a neoclassical boathouse along the water's edge. This boathouse once provided an extended vantage point from which to view the entire estate.
