Rullingen Castle

Rullingen Castle is a brick and stone castle with a U-shaped layout located in Kuttekoven. A stone entrance bridge built in 1885 spans across where the former moat once stood.

The first recorded lord of the castle was Eggebert van Ruelingen, who served as a vassal to Arnold II, Count of Loon in the 1100s. The family maintained control over the property through the centuries, with the current structure shaped by various renovations.

Inside, you can see a grand hall decorated with landscape paintings from the 17th century and doors that Josephine Claes crafted in the mid-1800s. These rooms show how wealthy families decorated their homes during that period.

The castle now functions as a hotel where visitors can explore its historical architecture and gardens. Walking around the exterior grounds and the courtyard gives you a good sense of the overall layout and design.

Archaeological digs in the early 1980s uncovered remains of the original medieval structure buried beneath the castle's foundations. These findings reveal that the current building was constructed on top of much older structures.
