Palace of Coudenberg, Archaeological museum and palace ruins in Royal Quarter, Belgium
The underground remains of the Coudenberg Palace contain medieval stone corridors, chambers, and foundations beneath the current Royal Square of Brussels.
From the 12th to 18th centuries, the palace served as the residence for rulers of the Burgundian, Spanish, and Austrian Netherlands until fire destroyed it in 1731.
The Aula Magna hall within the palace complex functioned as a center for royal ceremonies and diplomatic meetings between European monarchs and officials.
The archaeological site offers guided tours through subterranean passages, with entrance tickets available at the adjacent BELvue Museum on Place Royale.
The excavated original floor tiles of the Aula Magna reveal intricate medieval patterns and provide evidence of the palace's architectural grandeur.
