Fort de Loncin

The triangular fortress spans 300 meters at its base with 235-meter sides, surrounded by deep defensive trenches and multiple gun turret positions.

The German artillery strike on August 15, 1914, triggered a catastrophic explosion in the ammunition magazine, resulting in 350 casualties among the 550 garrison members.

The site functions as both a memorial and military cemetery, preserving the memory of soldiers who perished during the World War I German advance.

The museum displays period uniforms, weapons, and personal artifacts discovered at the site, with educational materials available for school visits.

The fortress remains partially destroyed since 1914, with some of the fallen soldiers still entombed within the concrete structure where they fell.
