Fort de Lantin

Fort de Lantin is a fortified structure with underground galleries, artillery positions, and multiple levels of reinforced concrete construction. The layout includes thick walls, gun emplacements, and defensive features typical of late 19th-century military engineering.

Built between 1888 and 1891, this fort was part of a defensive network protecting Liège. It saw action during World War I as German forces advanced through the region.

The fort displays uniforms, weapons, and personal belongings from soldiers stationed here. Visitors can see how garrison life looked and what equipment the troops relied on daily.

Visitors should expect uneven floors and tight passages in the underground sections. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are recommended since the subterranean areas stay cool.

The fort preserves original retractable gun turrets that could lower to shield troops from enemy fire. This technology was advanced for its time and demonstrates the engineering innovation built into such defenses.
