Antwerp-Central railway station
Antwerp-Central railway station, Railway cathedral in Antwerp, Belgium
The station features a central dome rising 75 meters high, constructed with twenty different types of marble and adorned with numerous stone columns.
The railway station, designed by architects Louis Delacenserie and Jacques Voncke, opened its doors to passengers on August 11, 1905.
The building incorporates multiple architectural elements, including Doric, Tuscan, Ionic, and Corinthian columns, reflecting the grand vision of King Leopold II.
Three underground levels accommodate high-speed trains connecting Brussels and Amsterdam, while the main hall serves up to 200,000 visitors daily.
The structure transformed from a terminal station into a through station with the addition of a tunnel beneath the building during its renovation.
