Viaduct van Remouchamps, Road viaduct in Remouchamps, Belgium.
The Remouchamps Viaduct is a road bridge spanning 939 meters (3,080 feet) across the Amblève valley using reinforced concrete and steel. The structure rests on eleven piers with twelve varying spans, reaching about 80 meters (262 feet) above the river.
The viaduct opened to traffic in 1980 as part of the A26 highway, introducing new construction methods that changed bridge engineering. Later projects across Europe studied and adapted its design solutions.
The viaduct is used daily by travelers crossing the Amblève valley and has become part of the region's visual identity. It demonstrates how modern engineering became woven into the landscape people pass through regularly.
The viaduct is easily accessible from the A26 highway and offers good views from several vantage points along the valley. Visitors can get the best perspective from the valley floor or nearby paths that show the structure from different angles.
The construction used an innovative deck-pushing technique that proved so effective it was later adopted by other major bridge projects across Europe. This method allowed builders to work faster and more safely when constructing similar large spans.
