Basiliek van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Kortenbos

The Basilica of Our Lady of Kortenbos displays baroque architecture with a single-nave cruciform structure made of brick and limestone elements.

In 1636, Elisabeth van Oeteren placed a clay statue of Mary near an oak tree to protect travelers from bandits in the dangerous forest.

The church houses ten confessionals integrated into oak paneling, along with eighteen votive paintings and twelve portraits of Premonstratensian saints.

The Norbertine fathers from Averbode Abbey manage this parish church, which serves communities from Alken, Kozen, Zepperen, and Melveren.

Between 1637 and 1651, thirty-two documented healings occurred at this site, leading to its recognition as a pilgrimage destination.
