Kasteel van Nieuwenhoven

Kasteel van Nieuwenhoven is a 13th-century castle in Sint-Truiden built around a central courtyard with a gatehouse in the north wing and towers on the eastern side. The structure shows layers of architectural periods, from medieval fortifications to later neoclassical additions that give it varied character.

The castle began as a summer residence for abbots of Sint-Trudo Abbey and was fortified in 1329 for defensive purposes. By the 18th century it was transformed into a permanent residence for the abbots, leaving behind its earlier military role.
