Leeuwergem Castle

Leeuwergem Castle is an 18th-century estate in Zottegem featuring French-influenced design with a square floor plan and rococo details. The facade and interior display refined shell motifs and curved lines typical of its architectural style.

Construction took place between 1762 and 1764 under the direction of nobleman Pieter Emmanuel d'Hane from Ghent. This new building replaced an earlier fortified structure that had occupied the site since the 15th century.

The chapel inside remains decorated as it was when blessed in 1764, with ornaments and carvings that visitors can observe today. You can see how carefully this sacred space was designed and maintained over the centuries.

The estate lies close to Zottegem town center and is reachable via local roads without difficulty. It hosts private events and corporate functions regularly, so visitors should check in advance whether access is available during their planned visit.

The grounds include a green theater built in 1764 with seating for roughly 800 people, surrounded by ponds, sculptures, and water channels. This outdoor performance space is a rare survival from the period and reveals how noble families organized leisure and entertainment.
