The Euro Space Center is a science center in Transinne housing multiple space flight simulators and micro-gravity experiences. At its heart stands a full-scale replica of the U.S. Space Shuttle named Amicitia, allowing visitors to explore the interior of an actual spacecraft.
The center was founded in 1991 as a response to growing interest in space exploration and European cooperation in this field. Over the following decades, it became a leading educational institution dedicated to space technologies and sciences.
The center grew out of space-themed exhibitions organized in Redu in 1972 and 1974 by Noël Anselot, president of the nonprofit Redu Initiatives, with support from mayor Léon Magin. The Europa 2 F14 rocket displayed at those events was later moved to Transinne when the Euro Space Center opened. In March 1994 the Euro Space Society was founded under Belgian astronaut Dirk Frimout.
The center offers programs for both school groups and individual visitors, including simulations and specialized training sessions. Plan for several hours if you want to try multiple experiences, as many activities take considerable time to complete.
The long bank of dark blue solar panels on the sloped facade, added after 2000, is the building's most visible feature from the E411 motorway. Behind the panels a grey steel framework of beams and diagonal supports carries the array, and a red lattice tower stands in front on the grassy slope.
