The Violieren operated as a drama society in Antwerp, holding regular meetings for theatrical performances and poetry recitations throughout the year.
Founded around 1480, the Violieren secured its first competition victory in Leuven during a Landjuweel event, marking the start of its influence in Brabant.
The organization fostered theatrical arts through semi-professional actors who performed plays and participated in regional competitions across the Low Countries.
Members received support through annual grants from Antwerp starting in 1490, which funded performances and provided food during rehearsals.
The 1561 Landjuweel organized by Violieren brought together 5,000 participants from twelve cities for theatrical and poetic performances.
