Boerentoren, Art Deco tower in Antwerp, Belgium
Boerentoren is an Art Deco tower in Antwerp, Belgium, rising 112.5 meters (369 feet) above the city with a triangular base and geometric patterns across its facade. The steel skeleton structure supports 26 floors, served by 15 elevators.
Construction began in 1929 and finished in 1932, giving Belgium its first skyscraper. At the time of completion, the building stood as the second tallest in Europe.
The name recalls the agricultural bank that once made this its headquarters, serving clients from farming regions across the country. Today the tower houses offices, while ground-floor shops face the Schoenmarkt and attract daily foot traffic.
The tower can be viewed from Schoenmarkt, where entrances to the ground floor are located. Visitors do not have public access to upper floors, which remain exclusively for commercial use.
A copper-lined water reservoir holding 230 cubic meters sits on the top floor. Bronze caryatids at the base serve as decorative support elements.
