Stropersbos, Nature area in Stekene and Sint-Gillis-Waas, Belgium.
The Stropersbos extends across 300 hectares, featuring a mixture of woodland, heathland, and wetlands with diverse plant communities and grazing animals.
During the War of Spanish Succession in 1701, the forest formed part of a defensive line, with remnants still visible throughout the landscape.
The forest name derives from the De Stroper family who owned the land for generations, contrary to assumptions about smuggling activities.
Three marked walking trails guide visitors through the area, including the green and red Stropersbos paths and the Laarzenpad for nature exploration.
Konik horses roam freely through designated sections of the forest, maintaining natural vegetation balance through their grazing patterns.
