Stropersbos

Stropersbos is a nature area combining woodland, open heathland, and wetland habitats across a large expanse. The mix of different landscapes supports varied plant life and grazing animals that shape how the land looks throughout the seasons.

During the War of Spanish Succession around 1701, this forest formed part of a defensive military line. Remnants of fortifications from that era remain visible in the landscape today, marking where soldiers once moved through.

The name comes from the De Stroper family who owned the land over many generations. When walking through, you realize the forest carries this family's legacy in its very identity.

Three marked walking trails guide you through the area, offering different routes at varying difficulty levels for exploration. Wear sturdy footwear as sections cross through wetlands and wooded terrain with changing ground conditions.

Konik horses roam freely through designated sections, using their grazing to naturally manage and shape the vegetation. These sturdy animals are an unexpected sight that reveals how modern conservation uses animals to maintain the landscape.
