State Archives in Louvain-la-Neuve

The six-story building contains three basement levels and houses extensive collections of documents across multiple floors in temperature-controlled environments.

The institution opened its doors in January 2009 after construction began in 2005, following the 1995 division of Brabant province into three separate administrative regions.

The archives preserve essential records including parish registers, civil status documents, and regional administrative papers dating from the 16th century to modern times.

Researchers can access the reading rooms from Tuesday to Thursday between 9 AM and 4:30 PM, with mandatory reservations made two working days in advance.

The facility maintains 76,000 digitized maps and plans, available through dedicated digital reading stations within the building.
