Jemeppe Castle

Jemeppe Castle is a medieval fortification in Marche-en-Famenne featuring a distinctive five-story central tower flanked by two wings. The structure sits on grounds protected by water-filled moats and surrounded by open parkland.

The castle was founded in the early 13th century as a fortified residence on the site of a former Roman villa. Successive owners expanded and reinforced the structure over time to meet changing needs and threats.

The 19th-century renovation added ornamental weathervanes to the medieval tower bearing the coat of arms of the de Sauvage-Vercour family. These decorative touches reveal how later owners put their own mark on the ancient structure.
