Meise Botanic Garden

The 92-hectare garden displays over 18,000 plant species across themed sections, including extensive greenhouse complexes for tropical and subtropical vegetation.

The institution began in 1796 as a royal garden before its official establishment in 1840, later moving from Brussels to the grounds of Bouchout Castle in 1958.

The garden maintains research programs focused on Belgian and African plant diversity, contributing to global botanical classification and conservation efforts.

Located near Brussels, the garden welcomes visitors daily from 9:30 to 16:30, featuring educational programs and seasonal displays throughout the year.

The herbarium collection contains 4 million specimens, representing approximately 6 percent of all documented plant species worldwide.
