Les Pavillons français, Art Deco apartment building in Schaerbeek, Belgium
Les Pavillons français is a residential building with a U-shaped design and three entrance halls in Schaerbeek. The interior features light oak paneling and mosaic flooring across multiple floors, with each level containing seven apartments in various layouts from one to three bedrooms.
Architect Marcel Peeters designed this building between 1930 and 1934 for developers Lucien Kaisin and his son Gerard. It was built during a period when Brussels was expanding its suburbs with modern residential complexes.
The decoration features geometric patterns, wrought iron railings, and stained glass windows that reflect the Art Deco movement. These elements shaped how residents experienced their living spaces and reveal the design preferences of that era.
Access to the building is provided through separate main entrances served by dedicated elevators. Visitors should note that the complex is divided into separate blocks, each with its own access systems.
The original Jaspar elevator in block I preserves its vintage wooden cabin with beveled mirrors. Glass panels allow views through the stairwell, showcasing a notable feature of this historic mechanical system.
