Grote Markt, Grand place in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium
The Grote Markt spans 3.19 hectares, making it the largest market square in Belgium and the central outdoor event location in Sint-Niklaas.
The traditional Thursday market has maintained its presence on the Grote Markt for five centuries, connecting present-day activities with medieval trading traditions.
Historical buildings with monumental facades line the square, displaying architectural elements that represent different periods of Sint-Niklaas development.
Every Thursday, 150 market traders set up their stalls across the square, offering products while numerous terraces provide spots for visitors.
In early September, the Vredefeesten festival transforms the square into a launching ground for numerous hot air balloons.
