King's House, Museum building at Grand Place, Belgium

King's House is a museum on Brussels's Grand Place featuring Neo-Gothic facades with elaborate decorations, stepped gables, and a central tower. The building houses multiple exhibition levels with collections documenting Brussels's history, including the famous Manneken Pis statue and medieval artwork.

The site originated in 1405 as a bread market before transforming into a ducal administrative center in later centuries. The current structure emerged after comprehensive restoration based on Gothic principles and has served as a city museum since its conversion.

The building displays craftsmanship and artistic works created in medieval Brussels workshops that remain visible in the exhibition spaces today. The rooms tell stories of people who shaped the city over centuries and how their daily lives are reflected in the objects on display.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and sits directly on the lively Grand Place in the heart of the old city. Allow time to walk through the multiple levels, and note that certain days see higher visitor numbers, particularly on weekends.

The building was completely reconstructed between 1874 and 1896 by architect Victor Jamaer while closely following medieval architectural guidelines. This careful restoration makes it one of the most authentic representations of Gothic architecture in Belgium, even though it is actually a 19th-century creation.
