Kasteel de Lovie, Protected castle in Proven, Belgium

The neoclassical castle stands within extensive grounds, featuring symmetrical architecture with tall windows and a prominent central entrance flanked by stone columns.

Built in 1856 by architect Pierre Nicolas Croquison for Jules van Merris, the castle served as the Fifth British Army headquarters during the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917.

The estate transformed from a private residence to a social care center, marking the evolution of Belgian heritage buildings toward community service purposes.

The castle houses Jules & Jolies' eetkamer, where visitors can enjoy seasonal soups, salads, and refined croques while exploring the historical property.

During World War I, General Hubert Gough directed military operations from this location, commanding troops between July and November 1917.
