Beaufort Castle

Beaufort Castle is a fortress ruin in Huy that rises from a large rocky outcrop, displaying the remains of a rectangular structure with walls from different building periods. The surviving sections are easy to explore and give a clear sense of how the structure once functioned.

The castle was founded in the 11th century and served as an important military post controlling the Meuse Valley for centuries. Over time it lost its strategic importance and was eventually abandoned.

The fortress shows how medieval strongholds in this region gradually transformed into homes for wealthy families over time. You can see different building styles today that reveal how the needs and tastes of residents shifted through the centuries.

You can visit the ruin year-round, though spring through fall offers the most pleasant conditions for exploring. The location is reached by a short walk, and from the top you get good views over the town and valley below.
