The church features a combination of Gothic and Baroque architectural elements, constructed with sandstone and ironstone across multiple building phases.
Construction began in 1234 under the patronage of Duke Henry III of Brabant, who intended it as a ducal burial church for his family.
The church houses valuable 16th and 17th-century metalwork and contains remnants of the tomb of Duke Henry III and his wife Aleidis.
The building now serves as an auditorium for the 30CC cultural center, hosting concerts and exhibitions throughout the year.
The choir section, inspired by the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, stands as one of the earliest examples of Rhine Gothic architecture in Belgium.
