Castle Thor, Protected castle in Astenet, Belgium
Castle Thor features a white facade with six axially ordered windows, a gambrel roof, and a cobblestone courtyard surrounded by three distinct wings.
The castle originated from a 14th-century brewery belonging to the Astenet family, with foundations of an earlier fortress discovered during pond dredging work.
The interior preserves original stucco ceilings, leather wallpaper with biblical themes, and oak doors decorated with Louis XIV carvings in the former chapel.
Since 1947, Castle Thor operates as a hotel-restaurant, offering accommodation and event facilities in the German-speaking region of Belgium.
During renovations, workers uncovered remnants of an 11th-century castle with four corner towers that belonged to the medieval von Astenet dynasty.
