Kasteel Drie Koningen

Kasteel Drie Koningen, Protected monument castle in Beernem, Belgium.

Kasteel Drie Koningen is a protected castle in Beernem with a three-story central section topped by a dome roof and two side wings connected by a colonnade featuring Ionic columns. The estate can be accessed through multiple entrances along Drie Koningen, Heirweg, and Wellingstraat, each marked by stone pillars and wrought iron gates.

Construction of the castle began in 1802 using materials from the demolished Saint Donatian Church in Bruges, commissioned by Baron de Serret van Outryve on the site of former Carmelite lands. The reuse of stones from this medieval church connected the new building to the region's heritage.

The estate served as a gathering place for Flemish artists between 1950 and 1982, hosting regular artistic weekends that brought together creative figures from the region. These events were organized by Hélène du Sart de Bouland and became a hub for cultural exchange within the local art community.

The castle can be reached through several clearly marked entry points, making access straightforward for visitors. Plan time to explore the grounds, as the estate has various areas and gardens to walk through.

The park contains a monument built from the remaining choir wall of an 1884 chapel, dedicated to former Beernem mayor Hubert van Outryve d'Ydewalle. This architectural fragment blends religious history with local heritage and shows how historical materials have been incorporated into the landscape.
