Kasteel Boekenberg

Kasteel Boekenberg is a three-story Rococo castle in Deurne set within a landscaped park that spans several sections. The grounds feature mature trees, serpentine lakes, and various architectural elements dating from different eras.

Built between 1751 and 1755 under the commission of Maria Knyff, this castle replaced an earlier 16th-century settlement that included a house and farm. The property changed hands several times over the centuries and underwent restoration work in recent decades.

The grounds contain a Chinese pagoda and underground grotto complex with stone bridges, additions made by the owner in the early 1800s that reflect the tastes of that era. These features remain visible and shape how visitors experience the landscape today.

The grounds are accessible on most days, with the best time to visit being the warmer months when the park is in full foliage. Comfortable shoes are recommended as the park is easily explored on foot along level pathways.

The park holds a collection of rare tree species from around the world, many of which have been growing here for many decades. A former mirror pond was converted into a swimming pool in the 1930s, showing how the property adapted to different uses over time.
