Suzan Daniel Bridge

Suzan Daniel Bridge is a tied-arch bridge in Brussels that connects the North Station area to the Thurn & Taxis site while crossing the Brussels Canal. The structure serves pedestrians, cyclists, and trams, using steel and concrete in a modern design with an asymmetrical shape that offers clear sightlines across the waterway.

The bridge was completed in 2022 as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and connections across Brussels. It was named after an activist from the 1950s, reflecting the city's commitment to honoring its history and the significance of social progress.

The bridge is named after Suzan Daniel, an activist who founded Belgium's first LGBTQIA+ organisation in the 1950s. The name honors her courage and serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and acceptance in the city.

The bridge offers wide paths for different users and is easily accessible from north and south. The wooden deck for pedestrians and cyclists is comfortable to walk on, while the concrete section for trams is durable and safe for regular use.

The bridge was designed asymmetrically so it looks different from each side and offers clear views of the canal and Tour & Taxis area. This design choice makes the crossing feel more open and gives pedestrians and cyclists better sightlines as they move across.
