Suikersite Moerbeke

Suikersite Moerbeke is a former industrial site with historic factory buildings and an old railway station. The 4.5 hectare area sits between the Moervaart canal and Terweststraat, now serving as a recreation area with potential for business use.

The site began as a sugar factory in 1867 and served as an important industrial center with rail connections. A dedicated locomotive transported sugar until the area gradually transformed into a recreation zone.

The buildings on the site stand as reminders of the time when sugar was made here and trains connected the region to distant markets. Visitors today can still see the old factory structures that speak to the area's industrial past.

The site connects easily to the E34 motorway via Ledestraat and sits along important cycling routes. The F41 and F412 bike paths, which follow former railway lines, run through the area and make it convenient to explore by bicycle.

Archaeological digs in the western section of the site uncovered Stone Age artifacts. These findings show that people lived in this area long before the factory was ever built.
