Park Nieuwe Koers

Park Nieuwe Koers is a 13-hectare green space on Ostend's western side with open grasslands, a concrete platform for events, and areas for community activities. The site also hosts the Astropolis Space Science Centre, which offers exhibitions and stargazing opportunities.

The site was once a velodrome, an important sports venue for Ostend. Its transformation into a park in the early 2000s added green space to a neighborhood that previously had limited outdoor areas.

The name comes from a historic velodrome that once occupied this site, and locals still connect this sports heritage to the space. This history shapes how people use and talk about the area today.

The park has barbecue areas, picnic benches, and a bicycle path about 1.5 kilometers long. These facilities make it easy to explore and connect to neighboring areas and the local cycling network.

The site features a diverse collection of plant species, with about 75 trees from 11 different varieties and thousands of shrubs across seven types. This diversity makes the grounds feel more like a garden than a simple park.
