Bobo Dioulasso Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque features two prominent minaret towers and a prayer hall with multiple aisles supported by 65 pillars in a checkerboard pattern.

The construction of this religious structure began in 1870 and took ten years to complete, following an agreement between the King of Sya and Almamy Sidiki Sanou.

The mosque divides its prayer sections into specific areas for different groups, with front rows designated for older women and subsequent rows allocated for men.

The building requires regular maintenance during rainy seasons to preserve its structure, which incorporates local materials such as mud, laterite, and shea butter.

Inside the minarets, separate reflection rooms exist for men and women, providing designated spaces for individual spiritual contemplation and meditation.
