The park spans 30,129 hectares across five municipalities, featuring karst formations, beech forests, caves, and extensive mountainous terrain with diverse plant species.
Established on December 21, 1989, the protected area maintains natural habitats and landscapes while preserving local traditions and sustainable land management practices.
The Cherepish Monastery stands along the Iskar River banks, representing centuries of religious heritage within the park's boundaries.
Visitors can access numerous hiking trails, explore over 600 caves, practice rock climbing at Vratsata Gorge, or ski near Purshevitsa hut from January to March.
The park houses the Skaklya Waterfall, measuring 141 meters in height, making it the tallest cascade formation in the Balkan Peninsula.
