Gotsev Vrah, Mountain summit in Slavyanka range, Bulgaria
Gotsev Vrah is a summit in the Slavyanka range that rises to 2,212 meters with a dome-shaped structure and steep ridges. The landscape displays numerous karst formations and dense forest cover throughout.
The mountain was formerly known as Alibotush and now marks the border between Bulgaria and Greece. It connects to the Pirin mountain range through the Paril Saddle, forming a key geographical link in the region.
The area is home to the Ali Botush Reserve, which protects the largest concentration of Bosnian Pine forests in the Balkans, with trees exceeding 400 years in age. These forests shape the landscape and visitor experience throughout the hiking routes.
Several hiking trails lead through densely forested terrain to the summit, with limited road access to the mountain. Good navigation skills and proper preparation are needed for a successful ascent.
The area contains around 1,700 vascular plant species, including 20 plants found only in Bulgaria and five species found nowhere else in the world. This botanical diversity makes it one of the scientifically richest sites in the region.
