Divotino Monastery

Divotino Monastery sits on the northern slopes of Lyulin Mountain, with two brooks flowing near its stone walls. The complex includes several buildings arranged around a central courtyard that serves both religious and daily needs of the monastic community.

The monastery was founded in 1046 after local farmers discovered a pot of gold while working their land. This discovery marked the beginning of the monastery's history and remains part of the local memory today.

The monastery is home to a monastic community that practices Orthodox Christian traditions and offers spiritual guidance to visitors. The daily rhythm of monastic life shapes the atmosphere of the place and creates a sense of devotion throughout the grounds.

The monastery is located about 10 kilometers from Divotino village and roughly 4 kilometers southwest of Bankya's Michailovo quarter. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be aware that access to certain areas may be restricted for religious reasons.

According to founding legend, the site was chosen by placing a pot of gold on a donkey's back and building where the animal stopped. This tale links a material discovery with a spiritual purpose and makes the location memorable in local stories.
