Yastrebino, Stausee in Bulgarien
Yastrebino is a reservoir in Targovishte Province, northeastern Bulgaria, formed by two main arms: the northern Treskavishki arm and the southern Kamburovski arm. It sits at around 340 meters above sea level, surrounded by rolling hills and scattered villages.
The reservoir was built in 1964 as part of a national program to support farming across the region. It was designed to store water for irrigation and to reduce the risk of flooding in the surrounding lowlands.
The reservoir sits near several villages and draws locals for fishing and walks along the shore, especially in the early morning hours. The water has become a natural meeting point for people from the surrounding area.
The reservoir is easy to reach by car from the main Sofia-Varna road, roughly 12 kilometers from Omurtag. The terrain around the water is hilly, so wearing sturdy shoes is a good idea if you plan to walk along the shore.
Winter ice fishing is practiced here, which is rare in this part of Bulgaria and draws anglers even in the coldest months. The water holds a wide range of species, from carp and pike to roach and rudd, making it one of the more varied fishing spots in the province.
