Lida Castle, Medieval fortress in Lida, Belarus
The rectangular stone castle features two corner towers and thick walls constructed from large boulders faced with red brick along the Kamenka River.
Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania ordered the construction of this defensive structure between 1323 and 1325 to protect against Teutonic Knight raids.
The castle grounds host regular medieval tournaments where participants demonstrate traditional combat techniques and historical crafts from the region.
Visitors can access the castle complex by taking trains or buses from Minsk or Grodno, with the journey lasting approximately two hours from either city.
The fortress sits on sand foundations and maintains its original defensive layout despite enduring seven centuries of battles and multiple reconstruction periods.
