Belarusian nuclear power plant, Nuclear power plant in Astraviec District, Belarus.
Belarusian nuclear power plant is an energy facility in the northwest of Belarus, built with two reactor units. Each unit uses Russian-designed technology of a newer generation, and both feed electricity into the national grid.
Work began in the early 2010s after earlier plans from the 1980s were abandoned. The first unit connected to the grid in 2020, with the second following a year later.
The facility takes its name from the nearby town of Astraviec, though it sits closer to smaller villages along the border zone. It brings a modern industrial presence to a region traditionally known for forests and farmland.
The site sits in a restricted zone not open to the public. Tours are only available with prior approval and must be arranged well in advance.
The site was designed to blend with surrounding forest landscape, with infrastructure built into gentle slopes. The towers rise from an artificial lake created for cooling purposes and visual integration.
