Victory Monument, Minsk

Victory Monument, Minsk, War memorial obelisk in Victory Square, Minsk, Belarus.

The Victory Monument is a granite and labradorite obelisk standing in Victory Square in Minsk, soaring to a height of 38 meters. Four bronze reliefs at its base depict scenes from the war.

The monument was built in 1954 to honor Soviet Army soldiers and Belarusian partisans who fought in World War II. An eternal flame was lit at its base in 1961.

The monument has become a traditional destination for wedding celebrations and remembrance gatherings, where couples visit and people pay respects to historical moments.

The obelisk stands on Ploshchad Pobedy Square and is easily reached via the Ploshchad Pobedy metro station on the Moscow Line. The grounds are mostly flat, making the area easy to walk through.

Beneath the monument lies a Memorial Hall housing soil from hero cities and displaying information about Heroes of the Soviet Union. This hidden underground space offers insight into a chapter of Soviet history that many visitors overlook.
